On Thursday, the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) approved a temporary price adjustment for package products for the 2022 peak holiday season. The temporary rates will be in effect from October 2, 2022 to January 22, 2023.
In response to an inquiry from eCommerce Bytes, the PRC stated that they will not review the US Postal Service (USPS) plans to consolidate Destination Delivery Units (DDUs) to Sorting and Delivery Centers (S&DCs). The PRC determined that the plan didn’t rise to the level of a review, and that “Commission leadership monitors such plans”.
On Tuesday, President Biden nominated Robert Taub for the PRC. Commissioner Taub has been a member of the PRC since 2011, and was the chair of the PRC from December 2014 until January 2021. As his previous nominations resulted in unanimous confirmations by the U.S. Senate, a swift confirmation is expected.
Out of respect for the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, a planned strike by Royal Mail workers for September 9, has been suspended. Hopefully, management and the unions will take advantage of the 10-day mourning period to work out an agreement.
The world's first adhesive postage stamp used in a public postal system included the image of the previous longest-serving monarch of the United Kingdom. Issued on May 1, 1840, the “Penny Black” stamp features a profile of Queen Victoria.
